Down Under, Naturally
GORPtravel Trip Picks for Australian Adventure Beyond the Olympics
by Bill Greer, GORP Founder
A dozen years ago, I landed in Sydney three days before Australia's bicentennial.
Tall ships paraded through the city's compact harbor. Spontaneous celebration filled the streets. The atmosphere was infectious as the Aussies displayed the pride and personality they have built over the past 200 years.

Sydney's incomparable harbor
The 2000 Olympics offer another excuse for all of Sydney to party. But to really appreciate the land down under, travelers must venture beyond the stadiums where athletes test their skills, away from the urban centers where Aussies live and work.
The island continent is a land of vast deserts and undersea magic. It's a land where strange creatures romp and aborigines portray their beliefs in mystical art. It's a land for exploring the natural world.
For those intrepid souls who want to see the rest of Australia, I have picked adventures to showcase outdoor fun across Australia. You will also find related links to complete adventure packages at GORPtravel.
