Wyoming Ranches
Introduction

Wyoming saw it all in the days of the Old West. Mountain men marked the Oregon Trail through the state, opening up the Northwest to an endless stream of covered wagons. The Cheyenne, Arapaho, and Sioux roamed Wyoming's plains, while outlaws found its vast expanses tops as a hideout. Trappers of the Rocky Mountain Fur Company gathered in Laramie to drink, gamble, and socialize. Grizzly bears fished the streams of Yellowstone, while eagles soared among the Teton's majestic cliffs.

Wyoming Dude Ranches

Not much has changed. It's a land of wide-open spaces and hardly any people. Indeed, only Alaska has fewer folks per square mile. Today they call it the Cowboy State, and for good reason: This is where the cowboys live. And in order to help sustain their horseback-oriented way of life, many have turned to the business of wrangling dudes hankering to experience the true West. Look around and you'll find some mighty fine dude ranches too, with handsome horses, endless trails, delicious food, and cozy cabins. This isn't roughing it by any stretch—you should see these spreads!
