Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness

Located in the White and Routt National Forests in Colorado.

The Ptarmigan Peak Wilderness encompasses 13,000 acres of the south slope of the Williams Fork Mountains. Elevations within the area range from 8,800 feet to 12,800 feet. The area contains numerous perennial streams containing cutthroat, rainbow, brown and brook trout. Vegetation in the area is characterized by riparian meadows and forests of lodgepole pine, subalpine fir, and Engelmann spruce giving way to alpine tundra at higher elevations.
