Cache La Poudre Wilderness
Located in the Roosevelt National
Forest in Colorado.
Named for the river, this wilderness was added to the National Wilderness Preservation System in 1980.
This 9,400 acre wilderness is characterized by steep, rugged terrain along the Poudre River and the Little
South Fork of the Poudre. Elevations range from 6,200 to 8,600 feet, and the area is accessible most of
the year.
The Mt. McConnell National Recreation Trail is the only maintained trail in the wilderness. To keep
wilderness characteristics, no additional trails are planned. Travel is accomplished by scrambling and
bushwhacking in stream bottoms, on ridges, and along game trails. A rugged and challenging wilderness
experience is available in this sloping and seldom traveled area.
