Directions: At the W end of the town of Leavenworth, turn S from U.S. Highway 2 onto Icicle
Road. Continue for about 1 1/2 miles to sign directing to hatchery.
Primary Wildlife: Annual rearing of 2,500,000 spring chinook salmon is the primary objective.
Smaller numbers of steelhead and koka nee salmon are also reared. The chinook salmon must migrate
500 miles up the Columbia River past seven dams to reach this point.
Recreation and Education: Hatchery open year round. Exhibits can be viewed between 7:30 a m.
and 4:00 pm., daily except Christmas. 7 Spectacular adult salmon, some weighing over 30 pounds, can be
seen in the hatchery and the river from about May to August.
