Directions: Exit Interstate 5 freeway 10 miles S of Salem at the Ankeny Hill exit. Follow Wintel
Road W (toward Sidney) about 2 miles to refuge boundary.
Primary Wildlife -- Primary objective of the refuge is the protection and management of
wintering habitat for dusky Canada geese. In addition to many types of waterfowl, nearly 200 other
species of wildlife may be seen on the refuge, including herons, hawks, vultures, quail, shorebirds,
woodpeckers, and a variety of song birds. Red fox and black-tailed deer are found here.
Habitat:: 2,796 acres of Willamette Valley agriculture bottomland. Numerous hedgerows,
thickets of Oregon ash, isolated Douglas firs, and crops of grasses and grains dominate the area.
Recreation and Education: Wildlife observation, study, and photography. Some migratory bird
and resident game hunting.
Special Note: Access to the refuge is limited between November 1 and April 15.
