Seal Beach National Wildlife Refuge

Directions: Refuge is within the U.S. Naval Weapons Station, Seal Beach, California.
Primary Wildlife: The endangered light-footed clapper rail, California least tern, and brown
pelican. -- Waterfowl, shore- and wading birds also use the area.
Habitat: 911 acres of salt marsh, tidal wetlands and small area of coastal uplands.
Recreation and Education: Public use is severely restricted because of the presence of endangered
species and U.S. Navy security regulations.
SPECIAL NOTE: Located along the heavily urbanized Orange County coast, the refuge was established to
preserve one of the largest remaining salt marshes in Southern California.
