WINDY CREEK TRAIL ELEVATION PROFILE

TRAIL DESCRIPTION:
The Windy Creek Trail connects with the Colorado Creek Trail at the Wolf Run Cabin. The Windy Creek Trail parallels Windy Creek on the north side, following the creek drainage up the valley. It winds through black spruce forests and open meadows while gently climbing for the next five miles. Over the next two miles the trail climbs steeply through Windy Gap and emerges on top of a plateau overlooking the Fossil Creek drainage and the spectacular White Mountains, Limestone Gulch, and Windy Arch. From here, the trail descends into the forest and drops steeply for one mile, crossing Fossil Creek, to it's junction with the Cache Mountain Loop Trail.
CABIN INFORMATION:
The Wolf Run Cabin is located approximately 1.5 mile from Beaver Creek on the north side of the Windy Creek Trail. This 10' by 12' log cabin has bunk beds that can sleep four people comfortably.
The Windy Gap Cabin is located at the foot of the White Mountains on the east side of Fossil Creek, .25 miles from the Windy Creek Trail junction. This 12' by 16' cabin has bunk beds and a loft, and can sleep four to five people comfortably.
Each of these cabins have a wood stove for heat, a Coleman cook stove and lantern, a table, and an outhouse.
