Bull Shoals Lake
A popular area with anglers for its lunker bass. Float trips and trout fishing are available on the White River nearby. State park borders lake. From Little Rock, 135 miles N on US 65, 50 miles E on US 62 to Flippin, 4 miles N to lake. From Springfield, MO, S on US 65, then E on AR 14. Also see listings under Arkansas.


Clarence Cannon Dam and Mark Twain Lake
Offers a blend of picturesque natural resources and modern recreation facilities to suit everyone. Features the largest hydropower generating plant in Northeast Missouri. Located 28 miles SW of historic Hannibal via US 61 to MO 19.

Clearwater Lake
Located near three State parks and several historical sites, such as Gads Hill, where the notorious Frank and Jesse James gang staged the world's second train robbery in 1874. 5 miles W of Piedmont, or 100 miles S of St. Louis via US 67, then W on MO 34.

Harry S. Truman Dam and Reservoir
Located adjacent to the Lake of the Ozarks, Truman features excellent fishing, a regional visitor center and power plant exhibit area. Rugged hills, scenic bluffs, hardwood forest and prairie offer some of the best scenery in the State. From Kansas City 19 miles S on US 71, 75 miles E on MO 7, to Warsaw, 1 mile N.

Little Blue River Lakes
Within the metropolitan area of Kansas City, 2 lakes, Longview and Blue Springs, are operated by the Jackson County Department of Parks and Recreation. Located between I-70 and US 50 within the city limits of Grandview, Lee's Summit and Kansas City.

Lock 27
Located on the Chain of Rocks Canal, this is the southernmost lock on the Mississippi River. This site features a visitor center and overlook. Located 1 mile W of IL 3 near Granite City, IL.

Long Branch Lake
This lake offers beautiful shoreline vistas and abundant hunting and fishing opportunities. Long Branch State Park provides a variety of water-related recreation opportunities. From Columbia, 59 miles N on US 63 to Macon, then 2 miles W on US 36.

Melvin Price Locks and Dam
Located just below the confluence of the Mississippi and Illinois Rivers, this is the newest and one of the busiest locks in the nation. Visitor facilities are scheduled for completion in 1993. Just downstream from Alton, IL W of IL 3; or from West Alton, MO, 2 miles E of US 67

Mississippi River Locks, Dams & Recreation Areas


Fenway Landing-A lightly developed area. Proceed 4 1/2 miles N of Canton on US 61 to the MO 16 exit, turn E at the sign.

Lock & Dam 20-located in Canton, MO. Follow the signs from US 61.

Lock and Dam 21-located S of Quincy, IL. Follow signs from IL 57.

Lock & Dam 22-travel from Hannibal 7 miles S on MO 79 to Saverton, exit and follow signs.

Lock & Dam 24- (There is no Lock & Dam 23.) A visitor overlook provides an ideal spot to view wintering bald eagles. On MO 79 at Clarksville.

Lock & Dam 25- features a riverside picnic area and visitor overlook. 1 mile E of MO 79 at Winfield.

Norfork Lake
Noted for good fishing, nearby attractions include caves, museums and golf courses. From Little Rock, 135 miles N on US 65, 50 miles E on US 62. Also see listings under Arkansas.

Pomme de Terre Lake
Cool, clear spring waters make this lake the "Gem of the Ozarks." From Springfield, 53 miles N on US 65, 5 miles W on US 54, 4 miles S on MO 254.

Riverlands Area
The Riverlands Area offers 43,000 acres of opportunity for boating, picnicking, and wildlife viewing. The Riverlands Environmental Demonstration Area is located on the MO side adjacent to the Melvin Price Locks and Dam and the Ellis Island Access Area is located just upstream on the Illinois side.

Smithville Lake
Within 30 minutes of downtown Kansas City, this 7,190-acre lake offers a regional visitor center and an 18-hole golf course in addition to water-related recreation activities. From Kansas City, N on I-29, 15 miles N on US 169, 2 miles E on MO Rd.

Stockton Lake
A popular lake in the scenic Missouri Ozarks. From Springfield, 29 miles N on MO 13, 22 miles W on MO 32.

Table Rock Lake
A highly developed lake in the southern Ozark Mountain region. Nearby attractions include caves, museums, and resorts. From Springfield, 45 miles S on US 65. Also see listings under Arkansas.

Wappapello Lake
The natural beauty of the Ozark Mountains is part of the universal appeal of the lake area. Sport fishing opportunities are excellent. From St. Louis, 120 miles S on US 67 to Greenville, then 20 miles SE on MO Rd.
