South Dakota has two outstanding state parks. Besides sheltering the largest buffalo herd in the United States, Custer State Park has fishing, hiking, boating, camping, and some interesting historic lodges. Bear Butte State Park is an endpoint to the Centennial Trail.

If you want to investigate Native American culture direct from the source, both Pine Ridge, to the south, and Rosebud Reservations, to the southeast, offer tours and cultural programs. Check the resources page for links to information on visiting the reservations.
