Hiking

Hiking trails in Sumter National Forest offer something for every taste. The 100-mile-long Foothills National Recreation Trail links Andrew Pickens Ranger District and Whitewater Falls with South Carolina's Oconee State Park and Table Rock State Park. The Chattooga Trail runs along the powerful Chattooga River, and links with trail systems in Georgia's Chattahoochee National Forest and North Carolina's Nantahala National Forest, and with lands owned by a subsidiary of Duke Power Company.

At the other end of the spectrum is Jew's Harp Spring Trail, a short (0.7 mile) and easy jaunt to a curious hand-carved basin, the creation of one J.E. Sherman, in the mid-1800s. Other short interpretive trails can be found at recreation areas throughout the Forest.
