Ottawa National Forest
Wilderness
The Ottawa has three wilderness areas. Together these three areas comprise over 50,000 acres of wilderness. They are about equal in size with each sporting its own unique features.
Sylvania - Former haunt of lumber barons, this area has more than 30 pristine lakes, 26 miles of hiking trails, large, old growth trees and several lakeside campsites.
McCormick - Very remote, rugged terrain and large, old pine trees; this is the place to go for solitude.
Sturgeon River Gorge - Steep river gorge terrain with high bluffs, waterfalls and dense forest.
