Route: From Dunnfield Creek Natural Area to Sunfish Pond, Mt. Mohican, and Camp Rd.

Recommended direction: S to N

Distance: 8.8 mi.

Elevation +/-: 350 to 1500 to 1100 ft.

Effort: Strenuous

Day hike: Yes

Overnight backpacking hike: Optional

Duration: 6 hr.

Early exit options: At 1.5 ml., Beulahland Trail and Holly Springs Trail; at 3.1 ml., Douglas Trail; at 4.1 ml., Garvey Springs Trail

Natural history features: Dunnfield Hollow hemlock ravine; Sunfish Pond (glacial lake); Mt. Mohican vistas

Social history features: Yards Creek Reservoir; Herb Hiller plaque

Start: Take I-80 W to Exit 1 in NJ. Turn L at stop sign and in 0.4 mi. come to Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area Kittatinny Information Center. Turn L through the 1-80 underpass, L again on far side of underpass, and immediately R into Dunnfield Creek Natural Area parking lot (overnight).

End: Take 1-80 E or W to NJ 94N for 8.0 mi. to Jacksonburg. Turn L onto Mohican Rd. and follow for 3.5 mi. (bearing R at the forks). Turn L on Gaisler Rd. and go 0.5 mi. Turn R onto Camp Rd. (dirt) for 0.8 mi. Daytime parking for 3 or 4 cars just beyond trail around bend.

Camping: Sunfish Pond Backpacker site; Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (tent camping 75 ft. off trail or at least 0.5 mi. off roads); AMC Mohican Outdoor Center [call (908) 362-5670 for information].
