The Matagorda channel jetties, located near Port O'Connor, are accessible only by boat. In recent years, flyfishers have successfully targeted tarpon around the ends of these jetties from midsummer through fall. Late evening is the prime time for tarpon. Anglers also can anchor up on the flats at the base of the jetties and walk out to fish off the rocks. As at other jetties along the coast, schools of jack crevalle, ladyfish, trout, and redfish often cruise within a short cast from the rocks.

The Matagorda channel jetties are located near the western terminus of the Matagorda Peninsula and are accessible from launch ramps and marinas at Port O'Connor.

Pass Cavallo, Port O'Connor

An ancestral tarpon grounds, Pass Cavallo continues to draw the silver king. From July to early November, tarpon in the 50- to 70-pound class often are found schooling and feeding on an outgoing tide in about 20 feet of water and within 2 miles of the Gulf side of the pass. Large schools of ladyfish and Spanish mackerel frequently herd bait around the pass in the summer months, offering nonstop action for flyfishers with intermediate sink lines and shooting taper fly lines.
