This is the preferred knot for tying two fine pieces of line together.

Tie an overhand knot in the first rope and leave it slack.

Push the free end of the second rope through the loop in the overhand knot and tie an overhand knot around the standing part of the first rope with the free end of the second. When finished, the standing parts of each rope should be adjacent to the free ends of the opposite rope.

Pull the standing parts of the two ropes to link the two knots together and finish the fisherman's knot.
