BACK IN THE DAY
Along the TT you’ll see roads constructed as far back as 1772, gaps used for moving troops and supplies during the War of Independence, the Mason-Dixon Line, and old gristmill sites. You’ll also walk on a section of trail where George Washington liked to ride his horse.

BIG VIRGINS
Hemlocks Natural Area in Pennsylvania is home to virgin stands of hemlock. Set on more than 130 acres of land, this area includes a narrow ravine greater than a mile long.

SUGAR KNOB AREA
Near the West Virginia-Virginia border, the gorgeous ridgelines of the Sugar Knob area have fern fields, springs, and streams up high, and can accommodate campers.

DEEP HOLLOW AREA
Located in northern Virginia, this area has four scree fields, a gorge, the Cat Rock Cliffs, and a shelter with fireplace, spring, and privy.

OVERALL, A NICE RUN
Located just before the TT’s southe n terminus you’ll see Overall Run and its 2,000-foot stretch of cascading waterfalls. One of these falls is the tallest in Shenandoah National Park at ninety-three feet. Overall Run offers views from its many rocky outcrops. This area has one of the highest concentrations of black bears inside the park. Remember that dogs must be kept on a leash while in the national park, please.
