PICK UP A PADDLE
Boundary Waters Canoe Wilderness Area, near the SHT’s northern terminus, is a legendary destination for canoeists and kayakers. After you’ve completed the Superior Hiking Trail give your boots a break and explore more of Minnesota by paddle.

CASCADE RIVER
You’ll pass many waterfalls on your Superior Hiking Trail thru-hike, particularly in the Cascade River State Park. These falls are especially beautiful in spring. Hidden Falls and Secret Falls are highlights.

ROCKY SUMMITS
At 1,500 feet, Carlton Peak provides a 360-degree view that includes Lake Superior, Britton Peak, and Leveaux Mountain. Other rocky summits along the SHT provide excellent views, too.

IT'S SIMPLY GORGES
You’ll visit Devil Track Canyon (the deepest canyon in Minnesota) just northeast of Grand Marais, and you’ll see the stunning Kadunce River Gorge on a far north section of trail. Just north of the Kadunce River Gorge, the SHT actually follows the shore of Lake Superior via the Lake Walk.
