* Class 3
* From Devil's Playground
Trailhead: 5.0 miles, 1,700 feet
* From 13,100 feet on Pikes Peak
Road: 2.4 miles, 1,500 feet

Rumdoodle Ridge is a shorter but much more difficult approach route to Bottomless Pit. Start at the Devil's Playground Trailhead and walk south above the road, skirting Points 13,190 and 13,250 on their west sides. Leave the road and skirt Point 13,363 on its east side to reach the 13,110-foot saddle between Point 13,363 and the small Point 13,230 to the east.

You can also park or be dropped off at 13,100 feet on the road just after it traverses around to the southeast side of Point 13,363. This point is 1.8 miles beyond Devil's Playground and just south of the 13,110-foot saddle. Remember, there is no overnight parking allowed on the Pikes Peak Road.

From the 13,110-foot saddle, go northeast, skirt Point 13,230 on its west side and find the top of Rumdoodle Ridge just beyond. Scramble northeast down the rocky ridge (Class 3) for 0.5 mile to the very small Point 12,296. This ridge requires careful route finding to keep the difficulty at Class 3. Harder climbing lurks in the many small cliffs. From the south side of Point 12,296, descend east for an additional 0.2 mile to a 12,070-foot saddle, then descend straight south for 0.2 mile to the bottom of Bottomless Pit at 11,640 feet. Now you are set to climb to the sky.
