Leading Outdoor Recreation and Adventure Travel Site Adds VP's to Lead Advertising, Marketing and Online Travel Divisions
NEW YORK, November 4, 1999 - GORP (a.k.a. Great Outdoor Recreation Pages),
the premiere Internet site for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure travelers,
today announced the appointment of three vice presidents. Joining the
Company are Michael Steiner, vice president of online travel; Evan Moser,
vice president of marketing; and Myles Fuchs, vice president of advertising
sales. All three executives report to GORP CEO Jonathan Guttenberg,
who said the appointments are designed to strengthen the company's senior
management team and further enhance its position as a leading adventure
travel Web site.
"These three key executives will help take GORP to the next level as a full-service adventure travel and e-commerce business, " said Guttenberg. "Their combined new-media expertise and extensive background in advertising, marketing and online travel will enable GORP to solidify its position in the adventure travel and outdoor recreation community."
Background
Michael Steiner has a wealth of experience in the online travel industry. He previously was executive vice president of Direct Travel, Inc., one of the 15 largest travel management companies in the United States. During his tenure at Direct Travel, Steiner directed sales growth from $12 million to $250 million, negotiated significant multi-million dollar contracts, and established branch offices throughout the United States and abroad. At GORP, Steiner will capitalize on his experience in transforming Direct Travel from a traditional travel management organization to an online e-commerce technology company.
Evan Moser has extensive experience in the disciplines of marketing, promotion and public relations with an emphasis on brand building. Formerly vice president of marketing at the New York Road Runner's Club, Moser directed all marketing, advertising and public relations efforts for the New York City Marathon. and managed sponsorship programs for over 30 corporate partners, including Chase Manhattan Bank, Nike, Asics, Sprint, Continental Airlines and Microsoft. Evan also worked for global sports marketer NIKE as Regional Marketing Manager responsible for sports, retail, grassroots and public relations initiatives. He developed marketing strategies to launch Nike's flagship retail outlet, NikeTown New York, and helped launch new brand extensions for Nike including Brand Jordan and F.I.T. At GORP, Moser will oversee online and offline advertising, public relations and brand development.
Myles Fuchs is a seasoned new-media professional with 20 years in media sales management. In 1989, after a 15-year career on the staffs of some of the most successful magazines and cable television launches in history, Fuchs founded MMF Communications, Inc, a consulting firm specializing in the sales and marketing of niche traditional and non-traditional media properties. MMF's client base has included Yahoo!, NYNEX, SONY and cable TV giant TCI.. Fuchs played a key roll in the launch of Four11 and RocketMail (acquired by Yahoo! in October 1997) and WhoWhere (acquired by Lycos in early 1998), two of the Internet's early success stories. In his new position at GORP, Fuchs will be responsible for sales of all advertising and sponsorship opportunities, information services and travel-related services.
