Outdoor Recreation Site To Feature Ecologist's Campaign To Capture Natural Sounds
NEW YORK, June 28, 2000 - Beginning tomorrow, GORP.com will offer a respite from the sounds of roman candles, cherry bombs, and even the fizz of sparklers with renowned acoustic ecologist, Gordon Hempton, as he continues his quest to capture "One Square Inch of Silence."
Hempton's campaign - an effort to raise awareness of the intrusion of the noises of civilization into our national parks - will document the sights and sounds of Olympic National Park during the next three weeks. A collection of 360-degree panoramic photos will augment an inspiring anthology of natural sounds ranging from the simple calls of Redwing Blackbirds and Meadowlarks to the soothing sounds of trees in a canyon of breezes. The sound files will be available as both wave files and MPeg files for downloading. His findings will be accessible on www.gorp.com.
Gordon Hempton, is an acoustic ecologist and sound designer, who has provided quality audio services to musicians, galleries, museums, and media producers for more than 18 years.
