Bike Finger Lakes
Wine Country

By Gary Fallesen

Ride along the elevated eastern shore of Seneca Lake and you'll find the water a deep sea blue and an emerald green hillside that falls off to this Finger Lake. This is wine country, where the mere smell of grapes can intoxicate. If seeing and smelling isn't enough, take a break to taste the vino on one (or two or three) of the many winery tours. How many vineyard options do you have? The Seneca Lake wine trail alone offers 23, there are 13 on the Cayuga Lake wine trail, eight on the Keuka Lake wine trail, and one each on Canandaigua and Hemlock lakes. Circumnavigating the various Finger Lakes can take a few hours or a few days, depending on how often you want to stop and smell the vineyards.
