The 28 mile Juan de Fuca Marine Trail leads though temperate rainforest, rugged beaches and secluded coves. The trail was created through the Commonwealth Nature Legacy as an enduring reminder of the 1994 Victoria Commonwealth Games.

For a fresh start, arrive the day before and camp near the trailhead at China Beach, approximately two kilometers northeast of Jordan River. The easiest part of the trail is located at the other end, at Botanical Beach. Save it for last. For hiking the entire trail, take four or even five days. This will allow for a more a leisurely pace and an opportunity to really enjoy the beaches.

Summer and fall offer the best weather. Although winter and spring storms can be intense, sunny and mild days can be experienced all year long. Be prepared for everything. Bring proper hiking boots (waterproof) and gaiters to keep mud, sand and pebbles out of your boots. Pack a water filtration system (you'll be relying on creek water) and pack good rain gear—this area averages around ten feet of precipitation per year.

The park is open all year long and there is no charge for day-use or parking, but a camping permit of $6 per night (per group of four) is required.

Trail maps are free. Ask for a tide table from B.C. Parks.

Getting there:
