The moorland of the rift crest consists of open grassland with few or no trees. It is a grassland maintained by fire, for it is burned every year by Park staff. In places grow bushes of Protea suffruticosa and P.madiensis, with leathery leaves and large complicated white flowers, and there are also some giant heathers (Philippia species) and a few Uapaca trees. In the wet season, you may see delicate pink gladioli and many other flowers amid the vivid green grass.

At any time of year, a climb to the rift and a walk along it provides beautiful views and good exercise. As this is the Park boundary, it is also interesting to compare the view to the east with the view to the west; at one time, all would have been unbroken woodland.
