Unique contest allows visitors to vote on winner

WASHINGTON, DC (July 25, 2001) - GORP.com, the leading outdoor recreation and adventure travel Web site, and American Rivers, the nation's leading river conservation organization, today announced a national photo contest to celebrate America's rivers and waterways. Now through September 1, the contest invites photographers to submit photos of their favorite rivers and waterways by visiting GORP.com.

In a unique twist, visitors to GORP.com will vote off submitted photos until a winning photo is determined. The grand prize is a complete kayak package, including an inflatable Tahiti Classic Kayak by Sevylor, complete with paddle and helmet. The twenty finalists will win a case of Poland Springs water and a pair of Slot Canyon White Water shoes from Mountain Athletics by Timberland..

"It's summertime and GORP wants to celebrate the bounty and beauty of our nation's rivers," said GORP founder Bill Greer. "In an effort to call attention to protecting this valuable natural resource and to provide an opportunity for others to enjoy our rivers' inherent beauty, we are co-sponsoring this contest."

"We want to encourage people to get out on their local river this summer. Partnering with a leading company like GORP.com on this unique promotion is a great way to accomplish this," said Rich Maiore, Director of Corporate Relations for American Rivers.

Voting will take place during the first two weeks in September, when members of the GORP.com and American Rivers communities will cast their vote for their favorite photo. Members will choose the grand prize winner from a pool of twenty finalists. Full details of the contest are available at www.GORP.com and www.americanrivers.org.
