Crested Butte boasts exceptionally diverse terrain ranging from super-flat to elevator steep. In addition to convenient lodging at the base of the lifts, the nearby namesake town of Crested Butte is a Victorian jewel with additional accommodations and excellent dining and nightlife.
Where: 28 miles from Gunnison, via Colorado 135.
What's There: 2,775-foot vertical drop (3,062-foot drop, including hike-to terrain), 85 trails, 1,434 acres, three high-speed quads, three triples, three doubles, four surface lifts, two Magic Carpets, and a snowboard park.
What's New: Reopening of Teocalli Bowl, 274 acres in CB's Extreme Limits terrain. Crested Butte is undergoing a five-year enhancement of its base area.
Season: End of November to Mid-April.
Snowboarding: There is a terrain park. Snowboarding only trails available. Clinics are available.
Terrain: Beginner 15%, Intermediate 44%, Advanced 10%, Expert 31%
Average Annual Snowfall: Crested Butte receives approximately 300 inches of snow per season.
Ski School: A first-timer program is available for $95, and includes one full-day ski lesson and a full-day lift ticket. There is also a half-day lesson: The Beginner's Shortcut. The ski school offers women-only clinics, extreme clinics, racing workshops, powder workshops and bump workshops. There are 200 ski school staff members. This resort offers handicap ski school lessons through the Adaptive Sports Center.
