A quick pretrip routine is always a good idea. You don't want to depart with the food left in the driveway, an unhitched trailer, or a couple of kids wondering where their parents drove off to. Events such as these (okay, not the part about abandoning your kids) are fairly common, especially since there are lots of details to attend to in the frenzy of departure.

Get in the habit of walking around the outside of the RV, looking for anything amiss. How's the tire pressure? Are the slide-out rooms retracted? All items properly stowed? I once left home with the entry door wide open and dishes tumbling around the back of the coach. Double-check items inside as well, paying special attention to unlatched drawers, open cabinets, and precious heirlooms that might tumble about during transit. Finally, conform the cockpit to the driver's needs. Struggling with mirrors and seat belts during rush-hour traffic is asking for trouble.
