Great Egg Harbor River
The Great Egg is representative of rivers in southern New Jersey's famous "Pinelands" The diversity and rarity of flora and fauna here has led to the establishment of the Pinelands National Reserve which is recognized as a unit of the South Atlantic Coastal Plain Biosphere Reserve under the United Nations Man and the Biosphere Program.

Delaware (Middle) River

This segment of the Delaware flows through the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The river cuts a tight "S" curve through Kittatiny Ridge. This beautiful landscape, which now provides great recreational opportunities in addition to sightseeing and geological study value, was once proposed for inundation as part of the Tocks Island project.

Delaware (Upper) River

This is a 73.4 mile stretch of free-flowing river between Hancock and Sparrow Bush, New York, along the Pennsylvania border. Public fishing and boating access are provided. The area also is home to the Roebling Bridge, believed to be the oldest existing wire cable suspension bridge. The Zane Grey House and museum are here also.

Allegheny River
Allegheny National Forest
Beginning at Kinzua Dam, this 85 miles of river flaws through areas of narrow forest valleys, wilderness islands, and broad, rural landscapes. The area is rich with the history and culture of the birth of the oil industry. Public canoe and boating access is provided. The river is popular for muskie, walleye, rainbow trout, andsmallmouth bass fishing.

West Virginia

Bluestone River

The lower 17 miles of the river are designated offer excellent warm water fishing, hiking, boating, and scenic views. Pipestem and Bluestone State Parks and Bluestone Public Hunting and Fishing Area are located along the river and provide diverse recreation opportunities.

Definitions of the terms: "Wild, Scenic, and Recreational."

Contrary to what you might think, these terms don't describe the character of the river. Wild doesn't mean it's a wicked and foamy stretch of whitewater, and scenic doesn't mean it's a pastoral float. Rather, it's all about accessibility. Here's what the government says. . .

• Wild; this river is accessible only by trail, is undeveloped and generally is unpolluted.
• Scenic; this river can be accessed by some roads but is mainly still a trail access river.
• Recreational; this river has been developed along the shoreline and is easily accessible by roads, trails not necessary.
