River Road Scenic Byway - Michigan Scenic Drives

The River Road Scenic Byway is 22 miles of paved highway which parallels the beautiful and historic Au Sable River. Byway travelers have many opportunities to enjoy panoramic vistas atop high sand bluffs, to reflect upon the rich historical events that shaped a nation, and to view wildlife and unique plant communities in their natural setting. Most of the sites have barrier-free access and can be enjoyed year-round While traveling the Byway, tune your radio to 1610 AM for information on what to see and do in the area.

Location

The Byway is located in Iosco County, Michigan. The nearest communities are Tawas and East Tawas to the southeast, Oscoda to the east, Hale at the west end and Glennie to the north.
Access

The EAST entrance of the Byway is accessible from Oscoda by turning west onto River Road off State Highway 23.

The WEST entrance of the Byway is on State Highway 65, 5 miles north of Hale, Michigan.
